Who We Are

I founded Dotzler Law because I believe that hiring a lawyer should not be as difficult, painful or expensive as it is. Traditional lawyers can over-complicate matters, be cost prohibitive and difficult to work with. I started Dotzler Law to make working with a lawyer simple, accessible and personal.

Simple

I work hard to make partnering with Dotzler Law as easy as possible. You hire me to manage the complexity and cut through the lawyer talk to get to what really matters to you. That includes everything from where, when, and how we work together, to being sure you are fully confident and excited about the solutions we create for you. We’ll cut through the clutter and jargon to let you know what it all means for you. I believe I went to law school, so you don’t have to.

Accessible

I know the baggage the legal profession has, whether it’s the pushiness, the unexpected expenses, or the 9 to 5 hours. At Dotzler Law I work the way you want to work. I make it easy to work with me your way. Some clients prefer to never talk on the phone, some prefer in person meetings. Some like to sit down and review every word, and some just like it “handled”.  However you like to work, I am excited to work with you. This isn’t about how I do business, but rather how you would like to, and you control the approach.

Personal

I believe each of my clients is different, and I am truly trying to build a life long partnership. I believe that if I can do what’s right for you every time, without adding unnecessary options or services, that I will earn your trust, and your business for life. I want to be your local corner store for legal services and I am committed to knowing you and your needs inside and out.  Dotzler Law is a small team and I do not believe that thinking about your needs based on the numbers of “hours” that can be billed is good for either of us.  I will deliver for you every time, doing what’s right for you, nothing more and nothing less.

About Sam Dotzler

My legal experience, both in a large national firm and in a local boutique firm, has focused on the areas of trusts and estates, with a focus on estate, business and wealth transfer planning and estate administration, as well as business planning for entrepreneurs in both their new ventures and their ongoing concerns.

In addition to being the founder of Dotzler Law, LLC, I serve as “Of Counsel” for Roberts McGivney Zagotta LLC.  Prior to founding Dotzler Law, I was a member of the Trusts and Estates group of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP (Chicago, Illinois), a large, national law firm where I focused on estate, tax and business planning for clients of significant wealth.  My practice focused on structuring tax-advantageous solutions for transferring wealth and closely-held business interests to younger generations.  I also advised clients with regard to gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer tax planning, succession planning, leveraged wealth transfer techniques, charitable planning, trust and probate administration and the integration of estate plans and corporate structures.

Prior to joining Katten, I worked in a boutique trusts and estates firm (Hoogendoorn & Talbot LLP, Chicago, Illinois) where I advised high net worth individuals, families and business owners on their estate planning, business planning and estate administration needs. This boutique firm experience taught me how to be efficient and really focus in on the issues that required attention.
